Waun welcomed Neath athletic to roseland rd for the first cup game of the season. It was evident from the start that both teams wanted to start their cup campaign with a win as boys were trying to play expansive rugby in rough conditions. Waun had the majority of the possession but was unable to get over the line and convert good opportunities into points and silly errors meant turnover ball. Neath ath were formidable opponents who played some good rugby and scored 3 good tries. Waun showed the grit to come from behind to score 3 good tries themselves, the first from man of the match Iwan, second from captain Leo and the third from new hooker Connor and 2 conversions by new full back Morgan Couch. Every player for waun put in the effort with some great running, tackling and rucking. Our scrum was very good today and we stole some nice lineouts too. Forwards made the hard yardage and protected the ball well for the ball to moved out wide. The backs were excellent in defense and with abit more confidence to run to the corners they may of scored some more tries but I do believe the conditions stopped this from happening. With some minor tweaking to certain aspects of our game we can hopefully score more tries and try to play with more width. We are very proud of the team today and really pleased with the attitude and commitment from all players. Would like to wish Neath ath good luck in their remaining cup games. Next game for us is a friendly against mumbles, so lets go there confident to hopefully come away with another win. #waunmassive
